The Art Loft Artist
Q: How old are you?
A: I am 29 years young.
Q: When did you start creating art?
A: Like many people, as soon as I could spread paint with my fingers.
Q: How do you define art?
A: It's anything you elevate above the normally expected standard. There is also a certain amount of uniqueness & transformative quality that needs to be present to truly be art.
Q: What do you mean by that?
A: The more raw materials you use & manipulate yourself the harder it is to argue that its NOT art.
When someone follows a kit or an outline that they themselves did not make you get further way from art and more into the craft world.
Being an artist is having the ability to take raw materials & rework them into something completely different. Like taking paint & making a recognizable image of a flower.
Q: When did you realize you were an artist?
A: It never really sunk in until my high school art teacher took me aside & told me I was one. Ever since then, I owned that title.
Q: Why do you create art?
A: It’s an outlet that I have an affinity & talent for. Plus, it’s one of my ways of contributing to society & my local community. I believe the world needs more positivity & beauty. To connect with others. To inspire. To love and be loved.
Q: What is your favorite type of media to work with?
A: There is something about paint: acrylic and watercolor, to be more specific. I’m attracted to natural water sources (rivers, the ocean, creeks, lakes, etc.) so working with something wet sparks my creativity. However, I also create with dry media such as drawings, & when the piece calls for it I add mixed media elements; flowers, cloth, thread, beads, jewels, etc.
Q: Are you in Galleries?
A: I have been in some local galleries, however, what I find especially enjoyable are the art festivals. These usually last a day or two and take place in unique venues such as parks or curated event centers. The atmosphere tends to be much more laid back and free flowing, leading to better connections with my patrons.
Q: Does The Art Loft have a brick & mortar location?
A: No, not at the moment. It's something that may blossom in the distant future but right now The Art Loft mainly travels to local shows & events to share artwork. Plus, the website of course.
Q: Where do you see your art taking you in the future?
A: Traveling, hopefully, all over the world & participating in as many high quality art festivals as I can. Experiencing new places keeps me energized & my creativity fresh and flowing.
Q: Do you have any advice for emerging artist?
A: Do what you find interesting. Be adaptable but true to yourself & don't ever quit. Remember not everyone or everything is for you. It's your job to find where you fit & thrive.
